Mostly mambo, cha-cha, rhumba and tango. We are now starting on foxtrot, swing and waltz.

There are alot of studios in NYC. It will be easy to find one where you "fit".
Try Ballroom On Fifth (curntly relocating to new space, 37 West 37 St.), Dance NY (near 54 & Broadway). Both of these places are VERY reputable and have great teachers.

Ballroom on 5th and Dance NY are also great, but if you are more into social dancing than competetive style you will probably have more choices at Stepping Out or Dance NY.

Juice23,

I did visit the website of Tony Meredith's studio. Do you know anyone who has taken lessons there?

I made my first post for information on other studios, after reading many negative posts about Arthur Murray. We took our first set of lessons at the studio closest to our house, but when they were done, opted to try a different AM studio mostly because our instructor had also changed to this studio.
Our experience so far has been good and bad. Our instructor was knowlegdable and VERY enthusiastic about dancing. (we had to re-schedule a lesson with him one night because he was auditioning) Our problem was more with the studio manager. It was really not pleasant and we were not the only people to have had a problem. infact other student is has also changed studios. So far this AM "feels" different. The next couple of weeks will tell us if we have made a better choice, but I do want to be ready with options of other Studios that people have liked. Word of mouth is the best advertisement.

While we understand that dance instruction is a business, we want to be at a studio that teaches what we want, when we want it and when we are ready for it. If that happens and we as customers are accommodated and respected; we will continue to sign up for more lessons. It seems very commonsense to me.

So again thank you for the information.
This forum has been so very helpful!

Capy56. if this is in your area I would be going to Nick Kosovich's studio. Google that name go to second one down. I believe his sister is there also , former Australian Champion and one of the original stars of Burn the Floor. Good Luck.

Serendipidy,

Thank you for the lead. I will check it out as soon as I can. We have just come from a lesson....the tango was tonight....I have never liked it so much as I did today. I may even become adequate at it one day! Just kidding...it is a lovely dance. Again , thanks!
