You need to know, that the word " salsa " as applied to music and dance, is now an accepted part of the lexicon.
The music was dubbed this, by a very well known musician way before it adopted the name change ( from Mambo ).It derived from the type of music the jazz oriented musicians were infusing into the already established " montuno ,guaganco and charanga " interpretations of the time that had directionally changed the Son and Danzon rhythms ( I know i was dancing it back then, and witnessed the changes )
There is a saying in latino culture " All salsa is mambo-- but-- not all mambo is salsa ".
To deny the existance of an extant term, is at , best, ludicruous .
if you want to get to terms with names-- then I suggest you research the genre a little deeper ( Ive spent 50yrs doing it ) To be precise, its Cuban Son . Unfortunately, very little music is written in that character .
However, there are many choices currently being made available from re mixes, also some artists like Adelberto Santiago and Fruko who have included this in their latest CDs .
In as much as the " dance " is concerned, it has now been recognised and adopted into the syllabus of the IDTA and the UKA , under the name of Salsa , thus legitimising something, that to PR, has been their contribution to the dance scene, before the general populace even knew it existed .!!
