I'll agree with TheDitz, the point of mixers is to meet all kinds of people and dance with everyone, not just the group you already know.

Besides, as a dance ambassador I make it a point to dance with people who don't really know how to dance. I didn't know how to dance a few years ago, and now it's a great part of my life!

Because it gives us stuck outside your group a chance to dance with someone who "knows" how to dance. And helps neophytes avoid the embarrasement of having to ask someone to dance.

I have to wonder about these mixers.

Was at a social the other night, and during the foxtrot mixer danced with what seemed to be the only person in the room, outside of the group of friends I came with, who perhaps really knew how to dance. Unfortunatley, I was unable to find her for another dance during the rest of the evening.

Kinda makes you wonder what's the point...
