Re: Christmas Music

Much of the music that is regularly played at Christmas dances (music with a Christmas flavour, that is) is truly awful! In moderation, this is part of the 'charm', and many social dancers will thoroughly enjoy some of the more bizarre couplings (such as 'O Come, All Ye Faithful' as a Rumba), but Quicksteps work better, and there are several really very good Jives.

The only Tango I have found (and this is strictly in the tongue-in-cheek category) is Alma Cogan's 'Never do a Tango with an Eskimo'. It makes a nice change to Tango with a smile!

Last year, we had a Christmas Social with the first half entirely made up from our normal 'serious' dance music, and after a short break, indulged in an hour of almost 100% Christmas Kitsch. Each new (improbable) tune brought a cheer from the crowd, while a few boring old farts sat in one corner shaking their heads in disapproval and incomprehension. I think I saw at least one of them composing a message for this forum on his mobile phone, while everyone else was having a great time, always remembering that they wouldn't want to dance to this rubbish more than once a year.
