Baby,
Do not dispair. When you have the love of dancing, you will definitely become one of the great dancers. I was a clutsy wallflower until I was 27 years old. I joined a teachers training Class in March 1949. Within 2 years, I won the third place trophy in the only National Valentino Tango Contest in Hollywood in the summer of 1951, beating two couples that were my former teachers.
My obsession for dancing was my strongest asset. All those movies you watched about dancing have left imprints in your brain that only need six months of practicing (by yourself one hour a every day) for your brain inprints to kick in. As for picking up the various rhythms of different dances, you can do that by watching other dancers and with a little help from your frikends who do dance.
I do have seven illustrated 'Lindy Hop'lessons on my my web site (no sale pitches) www.lindybylanza.com.
I'm the dancer who does the Back flip in the 1957 Columbia film, 'Don't Knock the Rock'.
Send me The words, 'Lindy Dancing' and I will Email you my one page instruction program for getting started on Swing dancing in 15-30 minutes; (No sale pitch) At 80 years old, I gladly share my dance knowledge.
