In our studio we teach many couples to dance for their "first dance". Most of the couples do NOT choose great dance music for that first exhibition. The important thing is that they like the music, or that it is Special to them. What some people are calling "foxy", we just call "Slow Dance". Steping on every beat ... One, Two or even Three walks ... then one OR two side rocks (sways). Foxtrot, Waltz or Rumba Steps work well, but if you do a closed "chasse" it looks to formal, and doesn't match the feeling of the music. By doing the "sway", it makes the couple look like good "Natural" dancers.
I would hope that any "GOOD" ballroom teacher should know how to teach to "slow" social nightclub music. After all, most of the people who take dance lessons are not interested in becoming Competition dancers. They want to be able to dance socially and have fun!!!
