How does lady create a good down swing in waltz

Could a down swing generate between 3 to 1 ( beat ). Such as natural turn in waltz , preparatory step on three , there is a down when I rotated my joints of right lower limb and pressed my right ankle on 3...then my weight transfered to my left foot on 1. I feel lack of sense swinging or down swing at all . Does it only appear in some particular steps occupying 2 or 3 beats ? Sorry, I always ask silly questions because of that I knew little about dance.

Yichen. I think a good look at the technique book will answere most of your problems. For instance. In the Waltz as in other dances there is no foot rise on the back half of any turn or Closed Change when danced backward. Otherwise for the Man, commence to rise at the end of 1.Continue to rise on 2 and 3. Lower at the end of 3. Then commence to rise at the end of 4 ( No foot rise ) Continue to rise on 5 and 6. Lower at the end of 6. The term No Foot Rise clearly means that the left heel is kept in contact with the floor until the right foot is in position. That also includes the ladies weight. It should still be on step 1 untill step 2 is in place. Then just follow the man up. When reading from the book you would be well advised to read all of the front pages which is called the Introductory Section. Try to remember that in Modern Ballroom the lady is a Ghost in a Dress.

I think you should read the tec book yourself before you start to give advice.

If you're going to object, the least you can do is to name a figure that does feature foot rise in this situation. And let's clarify the situation to what was clearly intended: any backwards step 1 - can you find one that has foot rise?

Dancefad. Just looking back over the foot rise thing. Lets go to a TH. it has to be THT. because the heel can't stay in contact with the floor and move onto the next step. So in the book the second quick of the Feather Step is TH.I think this makes sense. The step is TH. We are finished with that beat, so what happens after is not being mentioned, its gone , it's history. The heel of course will leave the floor only as the next step is taken on its beat. If in the techniques books it had said THT we would have people popping up like a bouncing ball. Now let this technique be carried onto heel leads or any other step that can be found.

Can you tell me the name and author of the "tec book"? I've never seen one. Is that because I dance American style?

yes, the technique book is for international style. Although DVIDA syllabus (american style) -see dancevision website - also publishes books that is very similar in layout to the international style book.

Thanks for your advice .
In ballroom , lady is a Ghost in dress ): lithely flowing with the man... I prefered to imagining lady is a peri).

Who's asking,Anon? Any student studying for a ballroom pro exam would immediately name the Feather Finish, as man, in the Slow Foxtrot. The 4 Quick Run in the Quickstep. There are also figures where the backward half of a turn is danced with rise which was created on the previous figure.

Dance fad. Interesting. I will copy straight from the book word for word.
"Note that although the man is on the inside of the turn on the last part of the figure, he will get foot rise on step four. This exception to the usual rule is to enable him to get a good forward swing into the following Feather Finish ". You will have no doubt noticed that the lady on the first step of the Reverse Turn has NFR. I think the main theme here was that too many ladies do get foot rise on their first step of a Natural Turn Modern Waltz, thus taking the man's centre away from him. This also can happen on the man's second half of the turn. I think that the first discusion on this thread was on Modern Waltz.
