Dear Zoli,
It all depends on your standard of dancing. If you are already a dancer and know the basics of the CCC then the ideas you will get are excellent. On a different matter. I purchased the CCC in 2006 and when I ended my viewing session I could not restart the DVD. I informed DanceVision and they sent me a replacement DVD. I then found out that when my computer had cooled down the DVD would start. I immediately returned their DVD with an order for one of the other dances in the series. They sent me the order of ONE DVD in a box with the measurements of: Length = 1'4" Width = 1' Depth 3". I had to pay an extra $25 USD for delivery to the parcel post. I complained but received no reply. Yet the replacement DVD was sent in a padded envelope.

Iluv,

Have you called their 1-800 number?

I've always found Wayne Eng at DanceVision to be very sensitive to these issues and have had terrific response from him. He even donated door prizes to a Dance Camp we put on last year.

If you're interested in a lower cost but still excellent series on syllabus steps check out the "Grand Ballroom" dvds you can link to through my wife's page. Andy and Wendy are 13 times provincial champions. They don't teach the steps in isolation but also include routines. Terrific value IMO. Prices are $Canadian. US prices would be about 0.9 times.

We can get them also and only charge what it actually costs at the post office to ship them (Andy charges more).

Note: They are all International style. Also, if you buy the "Complete Sets" they come with a music CD as well.

Dear Bob,
I'm resident in the UK and I'm not sure if that telephone number would be available to me. Thank you for suggesting other teaching material. I've now retired from teaching having been in dance for 71 years and a qualified professional for 49 years. I buy an occasional DVD for viewing pleasure only. Again, thanks for your suggestion.

IMO, this series of videos are not good teaching tools. They may demonstrate the steps, but there is little to no discussion of HOW to do it, lead/follow, etc. It's mostly "watch it and do it."

Anon,

I agree that DVDs are no substitute for a good hands on teacher.

However I do value my own collection of ballroom dance videos and DVDs as a good resource in much the same way a textbook helps in a course.

I know top teachers who take videos and analyze what Hawkins, Kryklyvvy or Barrichi do in their videos until the image wears out.

I have a coach I study with who is an ISTD examiner and 7 judge at Blackpool. He watches every video that comes out intensely/

Actually, I just got back from a teacher training session with him.

I mistakenly said Blackpool when I meant 7 times World Championships.

He's also done 2 World Grand Prixs and 2 World Cups (??)

Hi,
Just to keep the record straight, I wrote in a previous posting:

/* They sent me the order of ONE DVD in a box with the measurements of: Length = 1'4" Width = 1' Depth = 3". I had to pay an extra $25 USD for delivery to the parcel post. I complained but received no reply.*/

The actual extra cost to me was in British pounds (£25.04) not US dollars. That's about $50 USD.

LLuv2dance. Why when you live in the UK did you deal with an overseas company, unless their product was exclusive. Surely you could have got the same from Quasar or Richard Hearn's people.Living here I wouldn' t go past. www.dancesportinternational.com.au.
There site is worth looking at. Did you ever meet up with Jack McGregor and Bemil Twigg. She was Miss Great Britain .Festival of Britain Beauty Queen 1952.. Best Wishes
