| hi everyone, let's get a new poll going, I was wondering....
1. how did you discover ballroom dancing?
2. how has it changed your life?
3. What is your most favorite dance, the one that holds a special place in your heart? and also why?
I'll start..
1. I walked into a ballroom dance studio thinking it was a ballet school...whoops! I have been hooked ever since!
2. It has changed my life in more ways than I can list, but the most profound way is that I am doing what i dreamed I would be doing ever since I was a little girl. Dancing! (albeit that I was supposed to be a prima ballerina) whoops again!! sorry mom!
3. MAMBO :) I love it because it is such a primitive dance in comparison to most, it gives me such a feeling of being free...
so how about you? |
| okay, I'll play........sounds like fun, and much more appealing than all the bashing that's going on!!!!!!
1. I have always love to watch ballroom dancing....years before Dancing with the Stars.......but I had never heard of provate lessons, and I thought you needed to have a partner to really learn ballroom..........so I learned belly dance instead.......years passed and I finally decided to take ballroom lessons.......partner or no.......and now I'm addicted.
2. Ballroom dancing has given me a confidence that I did not have before. It has given me goals on top of goals..........the learning never ends and I love that. Ballroom is something that I do jsut for me, it is my sanctuary.......It makes me challenge myself to go beyond my comfort zone and to see that I can do far more than I ever thought possible. It makes me smile and laugh more than ever.
3. Tango is my favorite, I love the drama and intensity.......the staccato movements and music, the passion, romance and the sensuality, the embrace (Argentine). |
| Dear Lisamarie, You mentioned that you took bellydancing lessons but didn't have confidence until you took ballroom. I took bd to get the arms and hip movements for Latin and have fallen in love with it. I have found tremendous self confidence doing bd. It's a celebration of the joy of being a woman. It's so empowering, right? Where I dance ballroom there's always a shortage of men which frustrates me.Sometimes I dance with women instructors who lead. With bd, I don't need a partner. ...I started ballroom almost 2 years ago with a coupon to a FA studio that was opening. The rest is history...I'm addicted. My favorite is the bolero . |
| I'll play too: 1. In college, when leisure classes were offered. 2. I have been dancing just slightly longer than I have been married: I first met my wife on the ballroom floor. 3. Whichever dance I'm dancing with her at the moment, be it Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, etc. It's not just rumba that is the dance of love |
| Okay, Nigel, I'll play also. Because I teach ballroom dancing, I must admit I love all of those ballroom dances. However, my favorite has to be the Cha Cha Cha. It has a special rhythm and gets into my heart and soul, and I've fallen in love with it. My partner, Charles, also has. We also love the Waltz and Bolero, and those are OUR dances of love. Our dance students also love Cha Cha Cha because it's rhythm is so easy for new students to hear. |
| Hi all... 1. My wife made me go, kicking and screaming.
2. I have found a new passion. I found that now I can only count to 8
3. It is Samba, but as I move on in Foxtrot samba may be second. I love the music and the hgh energy of the samba. |
| 1. how did you discover ballroom dancing? Treachery! Pure treachery! My wife and her girlfriend told us guys we were going for coffee. We arrived at the YM/YWCA. "What are we doing here?" "Oh, didn't we tell you? Coffee is after a dance lesson." 2. how has it changed your life? I have no life now because all my time is taken up. Now we teach. I'll be doing the ISTD Associate teacher's exam in October/November. We run a home-based dance supply business. Organize dances, workshops, mini-classes. Going to competitions. I have no time anymore! 3. What is your most favorite dance, the one that holds a special place in your heart? and also why? International Foxtrot! Paso: the Man's Dance? Sheesh! No way! International Foxtrot is the Man's Dance. It's the dance the tail suit was meant for. OB |
| Although I played sports growing up, I was a total wallflower when it came to dancing. I was petrified of dancing and got tired of dreading those moment when a woman might ask me to dance. I got tired of butterflies. And I got tired of coming up with excuses for not dancing.
So I decided to take some swing lessons and was introduced to a whole wolrd that I never knew existed. The rest is history. I've competed in American Rhythm and now I'm preparing to make my competitive debut in International Latin. |
| Oh, my gosh, I'm loving this! Out for coffee, and you end up at a dance lesson, sooooo funny! Also to Nigelwee, I met my husband at a dance competition, and then seven years later we were married in that same ballroom |
| 1. how did you discover ballroom dancing?
I ALWAYS wanted to dance but never did. As a young man the only way I could get out on the floor and shake my groove thang was if I got altered first but I never was comfortable with the free-style thing or the unwritten rule that it was ALWAYS about finding someone to go home with. Finally, rather later in life, I saw "Shall We Dance," and it re-kindled a fire. I'm six months into lessons now and loving it.
2. how has it changed your life?
I have new friends, a "new" passion, a new collection of recordings, a ton of knowledge about shoes and floors and claves that I never dreamed existed before and a pass-time that I don't think I'll ever grow too old for.
3. What is your most favorite dance, the one that holds a special place in your heart? and also why?
RUMBA! For three minutes and 49 seconds, I look exactly like Armand Assante.
