I may be wrong....

...but I don't think that these amazing dancers do a lot of analyzing their dancing. They just feel it.....are super aware of their movements.
So, a question for you all.

What is more important...a dancer's heart or a dancer's intellect?

For men, of course his heart.
Because he needs to be REALLY in love with his lady, otherwise he could never bear all her insulting comments on his ability regarding lead, musicality ...

For women, of course her intellect.
Otherwise she could never find all the mistakes in her partner's dancing and without that, she would just have to dance and enjoy the music.
- Really boring!

Only women and gay men dance from their heart. LOL

The truth is...I think...it is the heart that controls all the muscles in the body. The heart can make a dancer beautiful. (...or even non dancers for that matter).

If that were true, then beginners could dance like pro's, but they can't.

I think Terrence2 is wrong too, but he has a vested interest in wanting to believe that the coach is doing all the work.

Don't you think the coaches bring out the best of what is already there. Which brings me to. If a person started dancing in their middle years they will never dance as we see on DVD's. It is a physical impossibilty for that person to bend the knees to an angle of 45 degrees, and have an equally middle aged partner do the same.
Once upon a time I could go into a deep knee bend on one leg and come up again and repeat. That was in the past. The coach now will make the best with what is available .
No "may be" about it,

I didnt say " coaches " do ALL the work.

You seem to forget, that "we" were all students at one point in our lives ( we still are to some degree ).

Coaches are there to provide insight ,and to give couples the " tools " which hopefully will bring out the best in them.

personal interpretation is a whole different matter .

And if you believe you can get to World class level ( Amat. or Pro ) without coaching, then I need to know what planet you are circling right now ?

I said no such thing. I'd sound rather silly if I did, wouldn't I?
