Re: To be a judge

Ahnungsloser. The thing that I was trying to point out is. Even before they start dancing or within the first few bars. If the poise is incorrect it does n't matter how well they may do their Scatter Chasses or their Woodpeckers they will not get a second look. They blew it right at the beggining and are now off the screen. I as a judge am looking at the couples I was first impressed with and will not be going back, there isn't enough time.

I somewhat agree on that, but (allmost) everyone should deserve a second look (at least glance). So poise (the one before you start dancing) shouldn't be the reason not to look at a couple when they are actually dancing. Once a couples starts dancing and the have real problems (depends on the level of the competition) with their hold, it's not worth to waste a further look. If the hold is wrong, the rest can't be good.

I understand that, but keep in mind that you are judging not simply watching. I think a dedicated judge should be able to give at least one helpfull hint to every couple - if asked - right after the competition.

You might think this is a lot of work to be done in 1.5 minutes, and it is, judging should be seen as hard work,
