Hi! I have just started ballroom dancing and am hooked! How did I get into it? A local dance school have runa 'Strictly Come Dancing' style competition to raise money for a local charity. The competition is on 30th April. I believe the American equivalent was called something like Dance with the stars - Evander Holyfield was one of the contestants. Anyway it has gotten 11 men hooked on dancing and 577 people are coming to watch us dance next week! Just an idea, if you want more info i can put you in touch with the school

I was teaching at an all-boys high school and was able to get the boys interested in dance by having the school's best athletes attempt to dance with some professional ballerinas. When the boys realized how athletic the moves were, they became interested in dance and even attended the ballet.

I danced ballroom when I was 14 - I was called "homosexual," "fruitcake" and "fairy" and so on so much that I stopped dancing. The name calling kept up anyway

I took up ballroom again in college and it was accepted - although participation by men wasn't high.

Maybe it is possible to have ballroom demonstrations from some older kids in college. When your friends see ballroom done well they will want to do it too
