Curious. What exactly do you find stupid. Are you one of those who was taught to count a Link and a Chasse to the Left and to the Right. as 123&4 3&4. If so are you counting the following Link 5 6. Have a look at the admistrators comments If it was the backyard mechanics that upset you, there are a lot of those around.

Quickstep (AKA Don)
No, I was not taught the chasses as 3 a 4 but as 'Da De Dar'. To me I can't see what a **teaching aid** has to do with the teaching qualifications of someone trying to impart the rhythm to a pupil. You recommend dancing a Link (1.2.3a4.1a2)into a Chasse to Left and Right(No one would do that) 3a4.1a2. which dances the following Link - I suppose you mean the Rock Action of two steps on counts 5.6. which would be 3.4!

Curious. You've lost me here. At the beginning of most medal routines we have Fallaway Rock which could be called a Fallaway Link.( thats not the correct name) Then a Jive Chasse to the Left and to the Right . Eight Steps.
If we follow that with the Change of Places Left to Right, and Right to Left which includes the Fallaway Rocks 16 step
If your not up to how Jive is being counted today, it is in steps of eight 3x8 = 24 steps for the above.
America Spin The same counting 8 steps. With as below the 3/4 1/4 1's
Where the counting on a Jive Chasse Q&Q Q&Q falls down is that we should be dancing 3/4 1/4 1. An internation judge would pick in an instant if this is done incorrectly.
Happy Jiving, there especialy with the 3/4 1/4 1.

Quickstep.
Someone a few months ago gave you some excellent advice and that is re-read your posting before it's published. If I asked a student to dance a Link I would expect to see a figure consisting of 8 steps. Just reading your new posting: if I danced what you suggested then after the Chasse to Right I would end in Closed Position. The Latin Technique has the Left to Right commencing in Open Position to end in Open Position or in Open Counter Promenade Position.

Luv2Dance. Jive Chasse Left to Right is not an open position any more. I just came across this one. The Chasse to the Right with an open position is very dated and has joined Noha in his Ark. I doubt if you will find it in any of todays competitors. Mine who untill a while ago were competitors, most certainly do not teach it, and actually stopped one of the class from doing it that way. If we are to do the Jive the way in which it is being done today, as you are probably aware, is more on the spot for what used to be a Jive Chasse. Karen Hardy made a comment only last year that those who are still trying to do Swing Jive are at a disadvantage and always seem to be chasing the beat. Only one out of the six were trying it that way.
