Stavro, It breaks my heart that you gave up dancing completely but you know what is best for yourself . You couldn't just practice less, like creating a happy medium? And Juice 23,you admit being addicted but you seem ok with it. I was in anguish when 2 lessons got cancelled 2 weeks in a row. I fell apart. I consider it a blessing because I didn't realize how controlled I am by dancing. I truly get a "high". It's probably the endorphins coursing through my body bigtime. Everynight I dream I'm dancing with my teacher or I have nightmares that my car breaks down on the way to the studio or my teacher refuses to teach me. And my daytime thoughts are dominated by dance. This past week I've been dealing with my addiction and again , want to thank all of you who have given your input.

You know there are worse addictions
I am happy to hear you love dancing , it deffinitly is worth it and it can give you much in return.
But like with everything else you need to stay in control. If you are worried it is becoming too major a factor in your life then maybe you should take it more slowly.
Take a week off. Just to show yourself you can. And sit down and make a list of your priorities... you know how parents wouldnt let us watch tv unless all the homework was done? Dont allow yourself to dance unless your other life is taken care of
And try to stay in touch more with non dance friends. Otherwise you will be finding it more and more difficult to relate to non dance discussions.
I know I have been through it, though I just traded one addiction for the other and now I am back to the original one: drawing.

P.S.
a forgot, if anyone wants little sketches of teddy bears dancing ballroom let me know, still got a couple lying around.

I've had to go an entire month without dancing due to injuiry and illness and it was horrible. Even two weeks off is too much! Whenever I can't dance, it is emotionally crushing because it's my necessary release. On top of that since I dance competitively, it's a terrible feeling to know that the last lesson or practice you just grasped something but now you have to take time off. Yes I'm very addicted, but I don't know any other addictions that are so beneficial and give me that high you talk about.

Yes, I too am addicted to dance. I have been ballroom dancing for 10 months and I can't think of anything else. It has made me crazy. I keep telling myself that this "dance high" can't last forever. I don't know if I should stop or continue to dance? I enjoy dancing, but I do not like the fact that it is controlling my life. I need help!

twinkle toes- it comes with the territory! that's like asking would you rather live a full life into old age with all of the ups and downs it throws you or living until 60 looking fabulous but with no real emotions, conflicts, relationships etc- okay maybe not that drastic, LOL but dancing is something that gets inside of you. And I tend to like it like that ;)

Hey there.
Wow sounds like you have your self a little bit of a problem. But don't stress to much, your just doing something new that youve never done before and realizing your good at it and you really enjoy doing it. Try and think of it as a relaxing down time for you and just another part of your life....not your LIFE. If you enjoy that much think of teaching a class or get your kids or spouse into it. I hope all goes well good luck. If you want to talk more email me samantha_sailer@hotmail.com

Addicted, Yes. Get up every morning and work out before work. Work out at lunch. Work out after lunch. Everyday for 5 years. Before that 6 years without a quarter break from dance school. Can't get enough. Just wish I had a partner I did not have to pay everytime I step on a dance floor. Only male I have been around is my male teacher all this time. Addicted to that too.
