>I was told by one of my coaches that the >difference between a feather finish and a feather ending had to do with the timing. A feather finish has the timing sqq (as in the end of the reverse turn) whereas the feather ending has the timing qqq (as in the end of a weave).

This is incorrect. The ISTD gives the timing for a feather ending (feather commenced in PP) and feather finish, and feather step all as SQQ.

But really, the timing of the important part - the feather action - is always a slightly hovered quick followed by a drifted quick. This is true even when the initial slow is absent, such as the feather action in a weave ending.

Hi
this is the first time I have posted here. I live in England. Real beginners, we give them the social foxtrot, as you know the modern foxtrot isn't easy ! Man= two walks forward LR then side close to the left. 2 walks back LR side close side to the left and continue....( slow slow quick quick ) this helps to understand the rhythm of the music. Then we progress to 2 walks, feather, reverse turn inc feather finish, 3 step and natural turn ( with the hezitation ) and for the short wall: 2 walks feather and change of direction to start again.

I diffenately think that these moves are much to difficult for an amateur. Experienced and well educated people that are groomed on the dance floor would be able to master the necessary moves.
