Some teachers say that the ladies right bust should be level with the mans shirt buttons which is giving one position for all shapes and sizes. Nothing can be further from the truth. The lady will be more to her left if the man has a longish arm. She must fill that space. One of our top dancers now one of the most sought after teachers, if you danced with him the ladies right toe would be level with his right foot.
Much more to her right than with a man who doesn't have the same wing span. The connection has altered a lot since I first learned. It is now right side to right side. And the conection is much higher. At the pelvis level there is a space which you could swing a brick through without touching either person. This gives much more freedom than in the olden days.
