Anonymous. Re timing in the Rumba. Wally Lairds Book gives it at 27/29 bars per minute. I don't have the latest. The other that I have is the Imperial which gives it 28/31 bars per minute. That is a long way from 25 per minute. I believe that the tempo for all dances should be set, and reviwed every year. None of between this and that. Also it should definitely not be left to the music presenters discretion.
If I was running a competion I would instruct the music man exactly how I want the music played.

Yes, I agree, I prefer the slower tempo in Rumba.

Frankly, I have no desire to compete, but I find it useful to go to a competition from time to time. Seeing competitive level dance gives me a better feel for what I should be aiming for, and of course, if you know some of the competitors, you can always cheer them on.

I had the pleasure of attending a big IDSF competition lately. More later. Chantal
