What's in a Name?

Hi All,
Looking through some of my old dance magazines I came across the following article written by the late Alex Moore in 1961. I write part of it here: *** Because of my world wide correspondence service I suppose I have been involved in the inventing and naming of figures more than any other teacher. Contra Check, Contra Point, Whisk, V6, Checked Lock and Drop Lock, Tipsy, Hover Cross and dozens more are all names that have been conjured out of my brain in an effort to convey the character of a figure. When someone else finds a more apt name I am always ready to adopt it. A new lease of life have been give to figures when a ‘catch' name is used. The Promenade Check is now ‘The Chair'. A Promenade Top Spin is now the ‘Big Top'. ***
