Ron Bennett told us a story at the IDF, one that proves the point of the importance of basic rather than overly complex choreography. I think it was either 1994 or 1996 at the USDSC in Miami, FL. Ron was coming back to his hotel room in the Fountainbleu at 3am and in the hotel lobby where the elevators were, were standing Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather, 14 times professional world latin american champions. They were practicing at 3am to prepare for that night and were arguing over having a lack of connection in their open hip twist (a basic syllabus rumba step). Isn't that amazing?
