Christy Cote's instructional disk says very clearly that what she feels is the instruction to pivot as in a back ocho.
George Garcia (who is not really ever very articulate IMHO) on the same track of the same DVD, says that he simply turns the chest a little to the left. BUT it is very clear that he has all his weight on the left foot, and that he bends that knee while pointing the right leg out to the right, and he does turn quite a bit to the left. So he is giving 2 messages: pivot, and sink down.
I think that is a very definite lead, but I also think that the woman could reject it (her option) and just do a back ocho. I'm a beginner, so I'll defer to whoever has expertise.
