Bota Fogo or Botafogo?

Hi,
Not too important but looking at a map of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I noticed the spelling of a bay on the coast line called, Botafogo Bay. The ISTD (UK) spell it as two words. The Laird and the new UKA Latin books spell it as one word.

Hi! Do you know it already? Well, I don't know if the technical name is Botafogo (one word) but in Brasil "Bota" means "put" or "to put" and fogo means "fire". Two different words.

Botafogos. A rose by any other name is still a rose.

If the term is Brazilian, it would be Portuguese.

Curiouse. I think two words looks better. As long as everybody knows what we mean. Bit like the New York which is often called a New Yorker. There are probably a few others. Which brings me to is Batacaras a correct name. Which I was told means cracking nuts.

Hi,
Interesting. I entered Botafogo in a Spanish to English dictionary and found no match. I then entered Bota match = Boot. Fogo = no match.
