I don't think once we get past the beginner stage anybody will argue that betweet two beats there is a space which we call ( and ). You will find on any tape, or at least the three I have, that the three beats in a Waltz are split into six. 1 and 2 and 3 and. The point I am coming to is the closure of the foot is on an ( and ). leaving the whole of three to be at your highest and your lowest on the count 3 (and).
So we have. Drive on one. Into a nuetral position on (and ).To the side on two. Draw the foot together on ( and ). Rise to our highest and lower on Three ( and ).
If you have wondered why the best dancers seem to have more time to lower, its because of the above.
To take this one step further. After flexing the knee after one, which is (and). We can push onto two. Now on the ( and ) count we can really slow the closure down using the power from two because we have powered onto two.
If you find that a succesion of change steps in Waltz is boring. Try the above as you do them. They will not be boring anymore.
It doesn't stop there. In the Rumba we have (and) counts in between the solid beats. A step is just a step. Its on those inbetween movements that we actually dance. So I have been told. Happy dancing.
