The question of whether one "knows enough" to truly enjoy seeing top dancers is interesting. I think it is a matter of degree more than anything. As a non-dancer you could look and just see the beauty without any judgement, which perhaps is the most "pure" way to view things. The more you learn, the more critical you can be but also have a deeper appreciation of exactly why they look so good. and it is like that with anything - from dancing to music to, I dunno, maybe dog grooming! We are going to a local competition this weekend and will see some pros we've seen on TV (Pierre Allaire and Mirielle Veilleux) so maybe I'll understand better by Monday tourist
I recently saw Mark and Viola Weiss performing at the annual Dance On! show at USC(I'm a student there), and they were absolutely magnificent.
Talking about watching pro couples. How much can you really appreciate their level of dancing, of course, given that you are not a pro dancer yourself ? First, let me say that i have only been to 2 competitions, so my watching experience is limited. Apart from your assumed thoughts of the fact that it looked great, could you really appreciate the level of dancing since you don't really understand what it takes to dance at that level ?
A few years ago I decided to sign up for a competition. That evening, the Pro Latin was scheduled. I have never felt or seen energy as that from Gary and Diane McDonald of NJ. Those two are totally connected to each other - and it certainly shows in their dancing! Regards,
Dear Follower, Before you read this, let me say that I am not offended by your comment, but rather see this as a challenging conversation. With all due respect: First, let me clarify that: No, I am not a pro dancer, myself. Regardless of level, a person knows what it took to get them there. I am a American Silver level dancer. I understand what it took to accomplish my level; therefore, I understand and appreciate what it takes for a pro to reach their level. What makes you say that an amateur dancer doesn't understand what it takes to dance at that the pro level? (i.e., just because I don't do splits, doesn't mean that I don't know what it takes to accomplish it). I'm certainly not talking about "looking great." Regards, Hoofer
| I'm sorry, i never intended to offend anyone. I merely saw this as a discussion point. I could not help but think about this after i read the discussion. Please don't take it personally, again, i apologize. This clearly shows that i am new to the competition scene.
