It's very common when first learning tango to start a dance low in your knees and, without realizing it, gradually rise up as you're concentrating on remembering the steps and other techniques you're learning at the same time. But soon the low position will feel more natural and stay consistent. It might help to practice the footwork of the steps you're learning, so they can quickly become something you don't have to think a whole lot about.
