AT most studios, teachers are allowed to leave when they are not getting paid. Perhaps if you stay that is suppose to make up for your training and if that is the case, training should be provided. Express in a concerned way that you need more training and also that you must be able to run errands in between lessons. If they have a problem then see what you can get out of the situation and head for another place

I had this problem. However Labor Laws are different from state to state. In NY an employer can not make demands of ur time if they are not paying u for it. And BTW dance training is not considered payment for your time. For example, If you work for a famous buger joint They have to train you or u can not do the job. therefore, If they don't give u the training to dance and u can't do the job....Don't get wrapped up in one of thos slave contacts designed to scare the hell out of u. Go to ur State Labor Dept

At what point I might put my foot down would depend in part on how much walk-in business there really is. If I were getting a reasonable number of new walk-in students (who would create future income for me), I might be more willing to spend unpaid time in the studio. But if there is not much walk-in business and your being there is just window-dressing so the place looks busy when students come for lessons, then I think you should be paid.

In my over 25 years in teaching ...and the studio was in a very nice downtown loaction, I have never had anyone walk in and inquire about dance lessons and take one on the spot. Unless u live in a real unique city. I don't think u would miss much
