Advice about weight distribution

IM hoping someone out there can help me with some advice? I've been learning ballroom for nearly two years. My best style is Rumba. When learning Rumba I was taught that weight is always held over the straight leg which causes the beautiful hip movement. However, recently I decided to take on Zouk classes and was told that my weight distribution had to be the opposite for Zouk (weight on bent leg not straight leg). Has anyone made the transition from ballroom to more "street style" latin dancing like Zouk and found this quite difficult?

You have stumbled across the Intern. v American styles of technique. As a Prof. having taught both styles ( tho not hardly any Intern style for some long period ).

The "relaxed" knee approach, is common to most of the indigenous latin dance genres. It DOES however straighten as the weight has completed transfer, ergo, the same result occurs but thru a different method..
