I know what the proper kind of pointe is and I know that I can work hard and do toe w/out it, but how do I prepare for it???????????????? How do I do toe???? Another thing that pisses me off is that my ballet teacher is putting a girl on pointe next year and she's only been doing ballet for 2 years and I've been doing ballet for 7 years...........its not fair. If anyone has any tips please please tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a member of a ballet company since the age of 15. first of all. just a correction on your use of terminology. it is not actually considered "toe" it's called "Pointe", but don't worry about it. ok. if you are pointing your feet the wrong way, you are probably doing what is known as knuckling. it's pretty much that you are curling up your toes when you point your foot, or, you are sickling, which is you are not holding your turn out and as a result, your foot looks like it is pulling your big toe out of lign with your leg. ask your instructor exactly what you are doing wrong and what you need to do to get on pointe.
As for the girl that got got pointe shoes after 2 years, that is normal. she would have had to have been performing techniques looked for by the instructor properly. don't rush it too much. If you are put into pointe shoes before you are ready, you can seriously hurt yourself. Also, how old are you? by the sounds of it, your are old enough to study pointe, but age and bone developement and strength have a great deal to do with when and if you get put on pointe.
I hope this helps. My best advise is to talk to your instructor and see what they say. if they say you are pointing your feet incorrectly, ask them to show you what the are doing wrong, and what it should look like. Also, ask them to put your foot in correct position if they can. it will let you get the idea of what it should feel like.
