Dance for wedding

Hi! I'm in need of some help. I've always been so completely fascinated by ballroom dancing. I've always loved it and imagined myself being one of the beautiful women out on the floor dancing away. I love latin dancing the best. My fiance and I are getting married in a year and we have this song that we absolutely love. I would love to take dance lessons and see if I could find someone to choreograph a dance for us to include the samba and cha-cha. We want to use it for our first dance. What do you think about this? Do you think an instructor would be willing to do this? Is it a common thing done? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm afraid we will just get laughed at by a professional. I've had some dance experience in the past, but not ballroom. We both have great rythym, though.:)

Stef: Any "Pro" or "Instructor" should be happy to oblige you and you fiance' in your quest. Should there be any snickering or laughing at you then my suggestion is to move on to another teacher. You must be prepared though to learn some basics first in order to complete your goal.If your idea is to impress your guests once then stop dancing I would discoursage the idea. If however, you both want to go on to be social dancers, then Katy bar the door, go for it.

I hope you will find someone to help you! Make sure you report back what happened!

I caution you about the choice of dances though.

They are both fast so if you are planning to do a dance for more than 3 minutes (I assume a mix of he two, maybe with the music mixed as well?) it might be a challenge to look impressive till the end.

Secondly, ChaCha is stationary while Samba is moving around so care must be taken to end up at te right spot for a good transition. That is I would rather not start a ChaCha in the corner or a Samba in the middle of the floor. By the way how much room will you have?

May I suggest two other latin dances for consideration: Rumba and Jive. Rumba is slow, it is the easiest for the man to get his feet wet IMO (big plus if your fiance has never danced before).

Jive is usually a crowd pleaser and it is technically the least demading I think. (Mostly stamina required, in comparison Samba tecnique is much more challenging. You want to look good right?)

You could start with a Jive for 30-45 seconds switch to Rumba for 60-90 seconds with some nice dips etc.and finish with a Jive of 30 seconds again.
