Looking through some of my old dance literature I came across a couple of quotes made by famous dance teachers who taught and lived in the UK. The first was made by the late Eric Hancox who said, ‘A specialist dance teacher is one who is only qualified to teach in one branch.' The other was made by the late Charles Thiebault who previously worked in a gent's outfitters before turning to full-time dance teaching. When asked if he found a difference in teaching the customers how to dance and not serving them from behind a counter, he replied, ‘The main difference is when teaching a customer to dance I've always found the customer to be wrong!' On a different note. Don,I'm surprised you came up with the pro looking through a window. I've heard that one so many times over the last 46yrs. Usually the argument has been: ‘What dance are they doing? This was said because the variations that were being danced were sometimes used in all dances and the pro could not hear the music. Regarding the answering to a ‘Thread', It is not easy to keep personalities out of a reply. Once that starts the Thread is finished because other members don't want to be involved. So it helps if the reply is constructive and not written with a hint of sarcasm. So Owen and Don keep those threads coming. Happy New Year.
