OK, I AM TAKING A SEWNG CLASS, AN WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS ON WHAT PATTERNS ARE GREAT FOR EITHER A BALLROOM PRACTICE SKIRT, OR A LATIN SKIRT. ALSO ARE THERE ANY PANTS PATTERNS THAT YOU LIKE FOR BLACK PRACTICE PANTS, OR EVEN ANY GOOD BODY SUIT PATTERNS? HEY OR EVEN A GREAT PATTERN FOR A ACTUAL COSTUME..... I TRIED TO FIND OTHER POSTD ON THIS TOPIC, BUT DIDNT.... ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!

KRYSTYNA My suggestion is to scrap the idea of patterns for practice pants, skirts etc., after all it is "practice" and there isnt any reason to have a pattern for them no one will see them or care if they do. Save your energy for the costume you will eventually make which everyone will see.

While owendancer is demonstrating his ignorance, try looking here:

Heh, that page seriously needs to be reworked. (I know, I'm the author of it).

There's a few patterns I like to use but all of them have to be modified a bit to make them work. Right now my favorites are Kwik*Sew 3060 and 3018 for practice skirts, and 2514 and 2473 for dresses.

Which reminds me, I seriously need to go make a dress right now for a competition I'll be in next week. Fortunately it's syllabus, so the dress must be very plain and undecorated.

As a fairly new ballroom dancer who sews, I love your web page. I have designed and sewn prom and wedding dresses, but do not have experience with ballroom gowns. Do you have any ideas for latin style?

I've made a few latin dresses and had a lot of trouble with them at first until I realized that some latin designs were basically skating dresses with longer/differently shaped skirts. So, I got a skating dress pattern from Kwick*Sew (number 2601 and 2931 are my favorites) and started from there. I ended with:

and the two dresses at

Anonymous: Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. I see now why you chose anonymous as a name. It makes it easier for you to hide. I offered my opinion and you chose to snub. Arent we childish. Nuff said.

Well then Owen, perhaps you can enlighten us with your method for making pants without a pattern.

I can't do anything without a pattern. Granted, I start with a basic pattern and alter and change and draft a new one from there, but I can't just start from a blank sheet of paper and get things like the hip curve and bust curve right. I guess that's because I'm self-taught and have never bothered to learn how to draft a sloper.

"Enlighten us?". You are the only one who responded!. My opinion was to scrap the idea of practice pants, skirts etc. Not the patterns.
