the other night i was watching shall we dance. i really liked the lilac dress jenifer lopez wore during the tango scene. in case your not sure what im talking about, it was the one that had her black bra sticking out and had many slits in the skirt creating a carwash effect almost. it was gathered at the top a little i think too. well i really liked it and would love to have one like it or simalar to it. it dosent have to be lilac. if any body knows where i can get anything like it even if only the top or only the bottom is similar or even sepriates, i would really apprecieate it. also does any body know of some nice websites or stores in the boston area where i can get decent affordable and stylish dance wear?
thanks alot

Hi there,

It was a pretty dress. My guess is that it was low cut and the black sticking out was her bra.

I live in your area and rarely find decent dancewear, although you could try Bebe at the Burlington Mall. I also found some potential dancewear at a store on Newbury Street, but heck if I can think of the name. It was pretty pricey, and most of the stuff would only look decent on a 20-30 yr old with a pretty good shape. I left!

bebe last year had some real cute things, but this season everything is brown tones and the like, which i look awful in and just dont like, also $80 for a skirt isint my cup of tea unless i really like it. if you happen to think of the place on newbury street, post and let me know, also any websites

"Stylish" and "affordable" seem to be mutually exclusive in dancewear sometimes...Espen Intl. makes some gorgeous super stylish stuff, but it's VERY expensive. Still, you can look at it at http://www.dancesport.uk.com/wear/index.htm

I like to try to make my own stuff. Vogue patterns has some nice designer things that would work as dancewear.

Actually, another place to try is Cache. They are a tad pricey, but I'm on their mailing list and get $25/off coupons every now and then. I got a carwash skirt there, but unfortunately it's a size too big for me now. I usually have better luck with tops than bottoms there because usually by the time something goes on sale, all they have left are size 0's and 14's.

You can also try going into the junior section at Filenes or Macys. I see some tops and bottoms that seem like they'd be good for dancing, but they're not the best made garments.

Putting the word "dance" in front of clothing, unfortunately means adding another 25% or so to the price of a garment!

good point about the stylish comment. by stylish i mean something thats not bright orange with fusha polka-dots. if it comes in black or red and dosent look like a piece of **** its stylish to me. sorry for any confusion.

Cache is a great suggestion! I saw a black "car wash" style skirt in a Cache store in NJ over the weekend for $80.
