First Dance- What do we do?

We have chosen Chantel Kreviazuk's "Feels Like Home" song for our first dance at our wedding this song.

What dance would go with this song?

We are taking lessons to learn the waltz, but I don't think the waltz would work with this song.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Kate and Brian

Suggest you let your instructor listen. He/she should be able to tell which dance to do for it and if it is possible to waltz to it. Is there someplace where a person can listen to a soundbyte of the song??

Here's a link to the cd on Amazon..

It's in 4/4 time, so it doesn't go with a waltz. It's slow, so ideally a bolero or international rumba. Those are strong technique driven dances, however. There's a couple at the studio I attend who did this song for their wedding last year (I instantly remembered the song when I heard it). You could do a slow american rumba to it. I think that's what this couple did. Unless you have like several months to prepare and would like to take a crack at the bolero which is a much more beautiful dance.

Good luck

This one is easy to learn:

http://dancevision.com/store/JD06/

Everything is a slow step. No quicks. No changing rhythms.

Were teaching it to a wedding couple right now. Suggest the following:

Basic
Back Walks
Rocks (Double & Slow)
Promenade
Outside Walk
Dip (easy and a picture moment for the GrandParents)

If you pick it up quickly try adding:

Walk Around

Don't try and learn it by yourself. Find a teacher that knows it.

Around here people mistakenly call it "Night Club Waltz" but it's not a waltz and should be suited to your chosen song.

All the steps I listed can be learned in an hour. But you should add a couple of lessons to solidify it.

This dance is a no-brainer and requires very little technique but looks good in no time. Your friends and relatives will think you've been dancing for years.

Thank you so much for all your help!

The classes we have signed up for are called "Night Club Waltz," so maybe we won't be learning to waltz after all? Do you think they will be teaching us the steps you have posted?

We're,

If you live in the Victoria, BC area you will definitely learn those steps for the badly mis-named "Night Club Waltz".

Only a few teachers here teach it: Ourselves (Bob & Donna), Roman, Lee & Liz and John.

If you live elsewhere print off the list and ask the teacher.

My wife and I and a group of friends went to a dance last night with an 18 piece orchestra.

It was a very social affair with a lot of non-ballroomers dancing.

In many instances, including faster numbers, we danced Night Club Waltz and had a lot of fun.

A little over a year ago they made a television movie here, "The Making of Charlie's Angels".

One of the talent agents came to one of our Club dances because they thought they'd be able to get people with gowns and tuxedos for the Emmy Awards scenes.

When they set one scene they just paired us up helter skelter with all the other extras who had no dance experience. Suddenly a director leaned over a balcony and said,

"When the principals pass through the lobby I'd like all the extras to pretend to be dancing."

There were about 50 of us from the Club, including 4 teachers all paired with non-dancers. One of the other teachers looked at me and said, "What should we do?"

"Night Club Waltz," I replied.

Word spread and we were off to the races. Very quickly and by the end of the shoot everyone looked like they knew what they were doing. Even though in the final cut everyone is in the background it looks good.
