There are two Turning Locks. One starts after a Spin Turn and is taken by the man backing diag to centre. The other which is the more difficult is from an Over Turned Spin Turn and has the man backing the LOD. Which one is it?. The correct count for both is 1&2 3.

Helo, Don,
I would be very appreciated , if you analysis the two turning locks mentioned in lady.

I also wonder how to generate a good swing. Would you please address the relationship between the body movement and the legs? What practice is helpful in learning this skill?

Thanks a lot.

Yichen 1. Turning Locks. The first is easy if you are familiar with a V Six in Quickstep except after the cross and the un-cross, which is on an and count. We now step to the side with the Lf to face diag to wall on 3. This is Waltz time so count 1 2&3.You could also dance 1&23 if you wish.
The more difficult Turning Lock comes after a Overturned Spin Turn backing LOD with the right shoulder leading. 1. back on Rf
2. cross Lf onto Rf ( that's a lock ) Step to the side Rf ( small step turning )on an and count. Go into Promenade with the Lf Diag to centre on 3. If you like finish with a Reverse Weave. These are the man's steps . The Lady has the natural opposite. After all that I'm glad I don't have to write a book on dancing. What a headache. As for Swing you might address your question to Jonathan. I am sure he will oblige.

As the other poster pointed out the only legal timing is 1&23 but do whatever you want unless reciting for an exam.

Swing: on the turning lock to R, think of the uncross step as being like 4-5 of a waltz natural turn, only commenced from the ball of the foot rather than fully lowered. Swing your hips to send the lady past, step between her feet, and into promenade.
