big toe--hurts!!

My big toe hurts! Could it be a corn? I remember stepping some time during the day , and it felt like my toe kind of mashed into my shoe (a fake Birkenstock). I've searched all the foot problem stuff for dancers around the internet. The skin is thicker there--maybe it's a corn or callous?
Yoga class was tough tonight because it hurt to put weight on the toe, especially just above the joint. I skipped the dance practice party because I figured it would just hurt worse.
I've put ice on it tonight.
Any advice from anyone? Thanks! Deanna

Ouch! Sorry to hear that your toe hurts. Did it just start today, or has this been going on for a while? If you can't figure out, have it looked at...it could be anything from a deep bruise to an ingrown toenail to gout (did you just start a ketogenic diet?).

It's been okay today. I was worried I'd have to cancel my dance lesson tonight, but I didn't have any problems all day. Maybe it was just a bruise? I'm glad it's better.
I was wearing fake Birkenstocks yesterday when I hurt it. I wore sneakers today at school and felt fine all day. I don't think those fake Birkenstocks fit my feet the way the real ones would.
Also, tonight for my lesson I had a new pair of dance shoes--2 and 1/2 inch instead of 3 inch. That will be a great change! I feel better balanced and less fatigued.
Thanks for asking! Deanna

I've had that problem. The left toe in my case was very tender and would emit an ache at the slight touch; even the touch of a blanket.
It was a case of the gout.

Celery Seed Extract obtained from my local health food store cured it very quickly (within the week).

I can bring on the problem anytime just by eating shrimp. It has changed my way of life at Chinese buffet restaurants. Strange but other shell fish don't have the same deliterious effect on me.

Sometimes I wonder if I have some allergies or sensitivities to certain foods. But I haven't really bothered to figure it out.
It's much better today--not bothering me at all, even after (or during) a strenuous lesson with my dance teacher.
I asked him about it--he wondered if it was a stone bruise. He said if it hurt in one particular spot that that's what it might be.
I read some about gout yesterday after you two mentioned it. I don't feel very knowledgeable about it, though.
I'm just glad it's better today. Deanna
