Try this. Lady Modern Waltz First three of the Natural turn. First Step backing diag to wall with CBM. Where should the centre be as the second step is taken to the side.

Moving along a straight line connecting it's position at the previous step 3, step 1 through to the end of step 2.

Anonymous. The lady should stay on step one without any change to the direction of where her centre is pointing. She steps to the side still holding that position. As the man passes she can transfer her weight to that second step.It will, to anybody looking, look a much larger step than it actually is because of the greater distance the lady appears to be travelling. The main problem which is very common is for the lady to arrive before the man thus losing her position. Two inches out will be four by the time a Spin Turn is completed. Instead of being in the same position as on the initial setup.

Actually, the lady has to match any rotation of the man's center. But yes, she cannot place step two until he has.

Anonymous. No. First step , Natural Turn . Waltz. If the lady is to maintain her setup position she must stay on step one. Point to the side on step two,not altering her position Then move the weight onto that step as step three is taken. Moving the centre only after the man has passed. Now men you will need to do the same when moving backwards, only with less show. Basically the technique remains the same. Don't leave your partner behind otherwise she will have to hang on.

Assuming it is the lady backing DW. The lady is on the inside of the Turn so she has to Turn more and move less.

Delightfuldancer. The whole problem can be put in one place. And that is the complete misunderstanding of the use of NFR.( no foot rise) on step one for the person on the inside of the turn. I am beginning to believe that some teachers don't know it exists, and how important it is. Something is really wrong if after the first three of the Natural Turn the couple have lost the position in relation to each other that they started with only three steps before.
