Turning over the foot

Jonathan. I read your exellent comments on a straight spine. My question now is in the Modern Waltz Natural Turn Step one. Is the turn, in your opinion, taken with the whole of the foot in contact with the floor, after arriving in that neutral position and then lifting the heel from the floor as they swing step two. And do you see some people not turning over that foot, but trying to do the turn through the next step. A dead givaway in my opinion is when the right foot gets misaligned. I don't think I have ever seen a tape where this has been covered in Modern. Hazel Fletcher did in Latin. She said the whole of the foot is in contact with the floor on all Spirals and Spot Turns.

The right foot doesn't turn at all until you are well past it and arriving on the left foot, at which point both feet turn together. Since the right heel was up at absolute latest when the left foot passed it, you are obviously turning with only the ball or even toes of the foot in contact with the floor.

The body turn happens earlier of course, but that isn't what you asked about.

Anonymous. OK. Now with the same technique How does the Lady do step four of a Spin Turn which involves half a turn on the RF. before stepping to the side with the LF.

It's not the same technique because the spin turn is explicitly listed as a pivoting action. However it can still have a hint of the forward natural turn technique.
