chicken walks - Jive

I have only just been shown this move and am already realising the steps must be small. Is it best to learn firstly by trying to do them on the spot instead of travelling forward? Has anyone got any advice on hip movement?

Try holding on to a ballet bar and twist under the rib cage facing your shoulders toward the wall. Focus more on twisting and less on settling.

I really appreciate the advice. Your mention of the twist under the rib cage really helped. My teacher was pleasantly surprised this morning with the improvement and showed me how to travel forward. The movement forward is minimised by useing each step to right and then to left to "move" laterally without imposing much on the actual distance forward. He also showed me how this creates a nice straight leg. I am feeling alot more confident. Thanks
