cutting off Latin shoes

Hi!
Has anyone here ever cut off the ends of their open toe Latin shoes? My teacher suggested I might find it helpful. When I was working on Latin rumba walks this week, my shoe kept flipping under my foot.
Any advice on doing this without destroying the shoe? Thanks!

Deewoman. I have heard of it being done, haven't seen any. There are Latin shoes made with the square selvedge. Wouldn't it be better to ask a shoe repair person. There can't be any harm done unless you cut into the stiching of the shoe. Let us know how you get on.

Sounds like the shoes were fitted too long. In fitting latin shoes, the toe should extend about 1/8" over the front edge of the shoe.

Actually, a friend of mine had the exact same problem. We were in the middle of a group class at USC, and in the middle of the across the floor exercises, she stormed over to her bag, pulled out an exacto knife (she's an architect major, so it's not scarry that she carries that kind of stuff with her!), and hacked off the toe of her shoe! This was a year ago, and the shoes are still fully funcional. Don't get me wrong, they look ugly as sin, but they didn't fall apart. That being said, I would still take my shoes to a cobbler if I were you, just for the sake of asthetics.
