Who is Linda Dean? Where can I find some information about her achievements?

Hello everybody!
I posted message on January 10'2006 but nobody'd responded. Does it mean that nobody knows who Linda Dean is? I was told that she's the world top ballroom dancer and I was able to find info on internet that there are dance shoes named after her. But nothing more specific. If anybody knows anything else I would appreciate input.

I saw Vernon Brock and Linda Dean perform at Ohio Star Ball in early 80s. Was quite a performance. I think I've seen Ms. Dean judging at comps (ie OSB) in recent years.

Thanks Paul! I asked about her because I was offered to be introduced to her. I said "sure, why not" but did not admit that I have no slightest idea who she is. I just started ballroom dancing this month but I still got a lot of compliments from her including suggestion to my instructor to skip basics and go straight to bronze level plus was offered to be in her show. Do you think she would say that so my studio would get me into buying "real"(read:EXPENSIVE) package of lessons?. Right now I just finished my introductory package.

Your instincts are correct. By the way, does "offered to be in her show" mean that she wants to pay YOU to perform? My guess is no. I'm guessing that you get to be in the show by paying a fee and by purchasing lessons so you can rehearse.

Don't feel bad, I have yet to hear a story from a new ballroom dancer where their teacher/visiting coach told them they were average and there was no need to buy anything else. It's the nature of the market.

There is plenty of good in the ballroom world, just remember that you are purchasing a service, and use your best judgment in determining whether you are getting a good value for your money.

My ex wife and I taught ballroom dancing in the late 70s and Linda Dean was our coach for a short time in Houston. She used to dance with Vernon Brock, and is a national latin dance champion. Unfortunately, Vernon died of AIDs in the very early 80s I believe.

Linda Dean is alive and well. She and her husband Larry Dean put on a series of Triple Crown Pro Am and Professional events through out the Southeast USA.
She is a charming and beautiful lady in her late 40's or eary 50's, but looks much younger. I'm not sure that she dances or teaches anymore. I have never seen her dance, except on the social dance floor. I'm sure that she judges and helps organize these huge 7 or 8 events per year. They reside in FL.
