I hate to have to make this announcement, but here goes... The release date of the DVD of Smooth variations has once again been postponed, this time to April 2006.

This time was unavoidable. As I was editing the Foxtrot footage, I realized that there is a missing scene for variation #1. It appears as though the camera man forgot to push the record button. This is one of those "small mistake, big consequences" moments. Without the scene, I can't finish the Foxtrot. And without the Foxtrot, I can't finish the video. At least, not until we re-shoot the scene.

Because it is so expensive to set up a filming date, I have to wait until our next scheduled film shoot. We don't actually have one yet, but we were tentatively planning to shoot some Latin footage with Mark & Viola Weiss sometime in March or April. I'll try to solidify this date with them. If I can't, I'll schedule something with somebody, to make sure a video shoot happens sometime in that span of time.

In the meantime, I'll continue editing the smooth video as planned. I should be done in just another couple of weeks. That way, once we do re-shoot that last bit of footage, I can have the DVD ready and sent off to the replicator within a day or two.

Once again, I apologize for the additional delay. But I hope it's worth the wait!

any update on this ?

On March 25-26 we filmed the footage necessary to complete the video. Remaining production time should be about 3-4 weeks, then another two for replication. I will probably start taking pre-orders once the editing is done and the replication has begun, which I estimate to be around the beginning of May.

4/9/2006 -- I just started capturing the footage from the most recent film shoot, and everything looks really good. The capture process will probably take about 3-4 days, then editing will go for another two weeks. After that, the DVD production should take another week.

Bill, who is doing the artwork for the cover & menus, has estimated another 3 weeks, which should coincide with our schedule nicely. When we have the artwork, I'll post it here.

I will start taking pre-orders once I'm totally convinced that there will be no more setbacks or delays. The earliest I will take them is 30 days before the actual release date. Those who ordered the rhythm DVD prior to that date will be eligible to receive a special discount on the smooth DVD. I have a list of every customer who purchased the rhythm DVD up to now, so you will be notified by email.

Are there any plans to include Samba in the future on the videos?

Re: Samba. Yes, 4 or 5 Samba variations will be included on the Strictly Latin Variations DVD.

I have not scheduled the Int'l Standard or Latin variation productions yet. I'll probably wait to do that until I've processed a better part of the video we've already shot, which includes the smooth variations, and the entire set of bronze syllabus videos for the website. My guess is that the Latin & Standard variations won't happen until late 2006 or early 2007.
