Hello, everybody

I have kind of strange question . Two of them, actually.
First, are same-sex couples are allowed in US competitions? And second, what level of identification is usually required for competitors?

Hope I do not offend anybody with this. Appreciate any information of the subj.

Thank you

not usually

no ID required, though the claimed identify often must be of an individual registered with a sanctioning organization

You will see same-sex couples in college or university competitions in the US, but unfortunately the two big sanctioning bodies, the NDCA and USA Dance, do not allow same-sex couples to compete in their sanctioned events.

There is also a new organization out there in the US that runs a series of same-sex competitions, but I can't recall the name of it offhand. I helped run a couple of same-sex competitions in my area (San Francisco) but they weren't part of this new organization.

On my last comp (NDCA) I've seen a female teacher dancing with her female student. So apparently there are some changes in this area. Or may be they do not enforce it too strictly in pro/am area?

About two years ago a woman was dancing with her female teacher, and was told that she could only enter the single-dance events but not the scholarship. I heard a rumor that she was going to sue the NDCA over it, but I don't know if anything came of it. Perhaps, if you saw an adult same-sex Pro/Am couple, then they've loosened up because of it.

Thank you for your answers, guys!
Yes, I've read NDCA rules today and apparently for pro/am all they want is membership card of the teacher. Student dancer do not have to be registered with NDCA.
I think I have to explain my questions. I'm a transgender male-to-female person and live for a long time in the female role but unfortunately still have to officially maintain my old identity. There are some obstacles irrelevant here which prevent me from changing my documents.
So, officially we may be concidered as a same-sex couple though definitely do not look like one.

Thank you again.

How is your dancing coming along? Do you currently take lessons, prepare for competition? Would like to know more

It's not bad at all, thank you. Yes, I'm taking both private and group lessons, go out to social dances, just finished my first pro/am comp with decent results and most of all, I enjoy it!
Sorry, I would not like to elaborate it more here, but if we can find more quiet place to talk - i'm fine with it.

I am use to seeing women dancing together socialy so it does not bother me,but I would not go too a competition or a dance where men dance together, sorry if I am biased but that's the way it is. If it became the custom I would look for another sport.
