Hi:
Can someone give me some pointers on how to find a dance partner. I have two posting on the internet, however, no replys.

I have been dancing ballroom for about 9 years off and on. My partner and I broke up about one year ago and I am having a terrible time finding another.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Deanna

I agree with Laura. It's not easy finding a dance partner. An additional pointer which i hope will help:- You must make yourself highly 'visible'at competitions and social dances. Make it obvious you're on your own and, as Laura said, make sure everyone is told you're looking for a partner

Deanna, I assume you've posted your stuff at DancePartner.com?

To add to Laura's excellent suggestions:

  • Visit lots of different venues - ones you may not regularly frequent. Maybe drive an hour from your home to get to know others in your surrounding area.
  • If your studios have showcases, enter them so people get to know you.
  • And yes, persevere. It took me two years to find the partner I'm with now!!!

Finding a partner is very very difficult, especially if you live in an area where there aren't a lot of dancers -- and especially if you live in an area where there aren't a lot of available male dancers. I've never had any luck with Internet partner ads, but I have had a lot of luck just watching who comes through the studio.

Here are a few tips:

* Tell everyone you know you are looking, especially teachers and coaches.

* If you aren't well-connected into your local ballroom gossip network, try volunteering at local competitions to meet people. Potential partner availability can come and go very quickly in some areas, it pays to have an ear to the ground.

* If you only do one style, consider trying another one to expand the possible pool of potential partners.

* You've been dancing quite a while, but you might have better luck finding someone less experienced than you than finding someone on your level.

* Don't give up. You never know who will break up, who will move into your area, who will decided to come back to dancing after a long lay off, or who will begin dancing.

Good luck to you. It's not easy, but persistence can pay off.

I live in Indianapolis, IN and I dance American style (smooth and latin). Unfortunately, I cannot not relocate. I have only competed Am and I'm not looking to turn pro. My height is 5'6". If you have anymore questions you can e-mail me at dmcfarla@iupui.edu.
Thanks for your reply!
