Blending two songs together

Can anyone help me out?

I understand there is a way to blend two songs together electronically.

In other words I am working with a small dance group and we are going to perform at talent show. We want to dance about 1 1/2 minutes of swing then about 1 1/2 minutes of cha-cha.

Back in the old days I could use a tape and record my song up to the measure I want the music to change - then stop the tape and put in my other song and start the tape right where I want to start in the new song - thus splicing two songs together.

I heard there was a way to do this electronically now with a downloadable program from the internet?

If anyone knows about this - please email me at jaredgb0306@aol.com

Thanks,

Jared

You need some special software to do this. Total Recorder may do - it is cheap ($12 and they probably have free evauation version) and has basic set of features for this task.

My favorite is SoundForge by Sonic Foundry (which has recently been purchased by Sony, but it's the same development team). The full program costs $300, but they have "lite" version for only $70, called Sound Forge Audio Studio, which has almost exactly the same feature set -- minus a few features so advanced, you'd never use them even if you did have the full version.

I can't say enough about the Sonic Foundry audio and video product family. SoundForge is by far the best audio editor on the market, whether you're a rank beginner or an expert in need of highly sophisticated professional tools. We use Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video for editing all of the video projects for this website, and it's the most user-friendly and underrated video editing app on the market. It beats the pants off of Adobe Premeire and Final Cut Pro. SoundForge and Vegas have many features in common.

If you're looking for something for free, you can try downloading some shareware or freeware off of tucows (http://www.tucows.com). Do a search for Windows software using the keyword "audio", and you'll probably find hundreds of applications. "Freeware" is completely free. "Shareware" is typically a scaled-down version of software with limited features, or a trial version. Either way, if you just want to splice two songs together this one time, almost any piece of shareware should do the trick.

Regards,
Jonathan

Download SoundForge at this address. I've been using it for years as I am a musician with a degree in film scoring. It is a VERY easy program. If you aren't comfortable doing this, and there is enough time before your event, I'd be happy to do this cut for you. Contact me at Boleros2Aerosmith@yahoo.com

The best of luck with this!
