Practice shoes?

I'm new to dance, I'm learning International Latin and Standard. Should I buy a pair of practice shoes to dance in, or a pair of latin style shoes, so I can break them in? Which are better to have during while learning? Thanks for any help.

I have 3 inch latin style shoes that I use at practice. Everyone else tends to use practice shoes but I prefer the bigger heel and I think it'll make it easier to dance in my latin shoes when I'm ready to compete. Hope this helps!

Ask your teacher what he recommends. Also, take into account how many hours a week you dance and how strong your feet are. Practice shoes will definitely be easier on your feet, but they do change your balance a bit.

When first learning to dance you have to get use to the heal turns in dance shoes and in latin it keeps the weight forward where it should be. With more experience you could use ballet shoes as my wife does.

I've been dancing for 6 years and I've always been dancing in Latin dance shoes. Once I tried out practice shoes and ended up a foot shorter than my partner. Also, if you use practice shoes you will never get used to the feeling of dancing with real Latin shoes. Here's one VERY IMPORTANT warning. Becareful what shoes you buy because they might give you blisters!
