Body Speed in Syncopations International

(A) Does the body move faster in all syncopations. (B) Are syncopations a combination of body speed and smaller steps.(C) In the running weave from promenade is it not easier to syncopate after the turn"12&3",it always feels rushed to do it on the turn"1&23".

"In the running weave from promenade is it not easier to syncopate after the turn"12&3",it always feels rushed to do it on the turn"1&23"."

You probably want the extra step in the later position, where it naturally extends what would be a drifting phase anyway (compare a back feather). Put it early and it interferes with the upswing.

Dave. Might not be the timing. Make sure the right shoulder is not lifting. The lady will feel she is going up hill if you do which doesn't help.
It is also a common fault in the V Six Quickstep.

Dave,

Rather than thinking about a syncopation as the body moving faster as you prepare to enter the syncopation I would suggest that you think of a syncopation as the body maintaining the same speed LONGER through the middle of the figure.

Example:

In the 12&3 syncopation. I would'nt rush the 2 in anticipation of the syncopation but rather maintain my momentum longer through the 2 for the & into the 3. I suggest that Step 3 the step after the & (not step 2) be danced 'small' using this approach.

In the 1&23 syncopation, again I suggest not rushing into the 1 but maintain the momentum through the 1 for the & into the 2. Again Step 2 after the & can be danced 'small' and not the & step.

Rha

Thanks Rha I will do as you say. The latest text book states " the swing is strong through 1-3 as split beat rhythm over 1-2 creates a strong body lead

Don. This an interesting one. The timing that is. The timing is down as 1& 2 3. I think the reason might be that we have to lower on 3 & which is basic technique. For me to do 12&3 and then an & to lower seems a little to rushed and does affect my next step which with me is a Double Side Cross 12&3& and then the Fallaway. The Fallaway is 1&23. All Waltz time.
If it is of any interest in the Foxtrot a Fallaway in a new routine we are learning has four quicks including the slip pivot. But I think whatever is comfortable for the dancer , obeys the Basic technique, and looks good. Why not.
