i have decided to take lessons from a male instructor as none of the female instructors are good enough in my studio

would you as a male instructor step down in teaching a male student on a one to one basis, if requested.

how hard would it be from a teaching point of view

do you think it would be a better option for me to share my lessons with a fellow female student just to be taught by the male instructor

How well does he follow?

As a female, I've taken lessons off and on from female instructors and have found it amazingly helpful, as experienced dancers of the same sex often have a deeper understanding of that sex's techniques that can really advance your dancing. Both the women I've taken lessons from are good leaders, so it's been no problem to dance with them during lessons. So if you really can't get the instruction you want from a female instructor (are you sure? no sexism at work in that opinion?), it might be a great idea, as long as you have a chance to practice with women somewhere, so you can adjust what you learn in lessons to the different body sizes, weight difference from you, center of gravity, etc. that you'll experience dancing with women.

I've certainly seen male insturctors dancing with male students when they are teaching couples and in classes, but I don't know anyone of either sex who takes lessons exclusively from a same sex teacher. Whether you do it with a female partner, by yourself, or some combination is probably soemthing to negotiate with the instructor you want to teach you. Choosing him is probably the most important decision.

It depends on what you are studying.

If it is the theory of ballroom dancing, a male instructor is fine. If the instructor is simply consulting and enriching your training, either gender is fine.

Every decent male instructor can fill the ladies part as needed in a lesson, but if it is perfecting your skills as half of a couple that is the goal of a series of lessons, you probably do want someone who is either female, or at a minimum smaller than you and extremely practiced at following.

Finding a partner for yourself who you can take lessons together with would be good, because then you can also practice without having to pay an instructor for all of your dance time.

Keen Student. A male to a male would be more like a lecture. But the teacher could give a demonstration of how a step should be done for you to copy. My experience has shown me that for the male teacher to do the ladies steps you will not learn a great deal. A male doing the ladies part is always going to be to strong. It works the other way around also for ladies unless the teacher is built like a tank they will always be less strong, plus they are in heels. I knew one lady teacher who I think could run through a brick wall.
Taking all things in account you have to decide yourself. Why not give it a go. I would . If it's not working and you are not learning anything, pull out. Somewhere along the line you will have to dance with a lady though.
I have assumed you are talking Standard here. In Latin with a male you would be able to learn a great deal, much more than in Standard. Best of Luck.

Keen Student. I agree with previous statements,but if the women teachers arn't good enougth then so is the studio and you should look else where.
