First I have no idea what is being taught in the US. When I used the term (change over ) I mean going from one Boto Fogo to another. Or two bars oF Samba ( change over) to another two bars. I can only assume that after going to lessons and classes and doing a heap of medals ,competitions and getting a few first places, the teachers took the easy way out, or just did not know, or were too lazy.I think maybe they got their accreditations at Woolworths. Then I struck a former 7th in the world rankings Professionaly. What on earth is the point. the point is I was taught the wrong timing by more than one teacher. If I do a Boto Fogo and count 1 a 2 which works out to 1/2 1/2 1/2 we now have one 1/2 missing we are on an odd number of steps so we were taught to loose that half (a) on (the change over). But the correct count is 3/4 1/4 1 ( no change over) straight into the next Boto Fogo. Voltas the same .Two bars of Voltas is not 1 a 2 a 3 a 4 which is seven steps and seven beats, where has the last half beat gone. Stick it on the
(change over ) but that is not correct. The timing is again 3/4 1/4 3/4 1/4 3/4 1/4 .1. That is two bars of Voltas. You can apply the same count to your absolute Basics 3/4 1/4 1 Whisk the same. 3/4 1/4 .1. We were told by a former Number 1 that you might bend the rules slightly for an effect, but at Blackpool you had only better do it once. I hope that some one out there is doing Latin and that we are not all Standard. I hate that expression Standard. I see in some places that the term Modern or Latin is being used. I can't for the life of me see why it was ever changed.
