At the end of the OTTL going into the telemark DC,how can I stop my wife from over rotating and taking her right side away from me,this is a problem we have had for years? I end up going in her direction .

John. Are you sure your partner is under rotating, rather than over rotating. Under rotating usually pull the right side away on an Open Telemark which causes them to have their feet pointing in not the direction you are going, which is usually diag to wall.

Here is the thing, John.... You CANNOT stop your wife from doing anything!!!

Being the wife side of the partnership myself, this is the big misconception about leading...

You are responsible for your own balance and movement as is your wife. If you attempt to force her to do something or overlead her you will throw her off her own balance and things will become only worse. You cannot dance the step for her. The best you can do for her is give her a good lead and then give her ownership of the step. At first you may become fustrated, but you need to back away and let her do it.... At first this may mean you will not make your rotation, ect... but as long as you try to force it, and dance it for her,it will just not happen.

When my husband and I get into a situation that it is just not working we have our coach look at both the lead and follow of our steps.... Often if not always, we are both doing something that is causing the partnership to break down. Usually, at first, the adjustments feel horrible and it becomes worse.. at first, but then, it gets better.

Trust me, when you let her go and give her ownership it will eventually work itself out.

Every professional lady that I have danced with once they get the lead on an Open Telemark, I just go for the ride. In other words they really work without being over powering.

the thing about the open telemark is that the lady has to actually CLOSE to promenade

True... The lady actually ends the telemark already in the PP position and there is a great temptation to "do something", when if fact you are already in that perfect position.

She really does need to do something - she needs to continue into a promenade shape. But she will do that by closing closer to the man, not opening out (in a reverse turning promenade, it is the man who opens his hips while leaving his top with the lady)
