Dave. If you mean by classical according to the book. None of thoes you mentioned will fit the bill. I think you might have to go back to the Henry Jacques era 1932 . Where the style being used was very serously policed. Especialy in the Tango and Foxtrot. Henry Jacques probably wrote the first book. If you happen to come across one don't part with it for a song. It could be worth a bit. I believe the only copy here went up in flames with the studio.

If we have to go back that far then what is the point of talking about it as it is obviously a style of the past that is long outdated and has not been danced since before Gleave was World Champion.

While the look has changed substantially over the years, I think you'll find on detailed examination that it's only recently that it has become common to violate the basic underlying principles of the classic style. Of the couples listed, the Hiltons had a quite classic look, but started to deviate from the accepted technique enough to generate some controversy from time to time. Many couples afterwards have departed much further, to the point that what they are doing can be seriously at odds with what those listed retirees are teaching.

The quote function does not seem to work for me, so, referring to Henry Jaques book,
Quote: " If you happen to come across one don't part with it for a song. It could be worth a bit." Unquote.

I do hope so. I have a signed first edition!

Social dancer. How did you come by your Henry Jaques book. I've never even seen one. Don't loan it to anyone or give it away. When I did my gold medal many years ago Henry was the examiner. After the medal test he spoke to me from his position on the stage and ticked me off by saying " The top button of your jacket is undone, don't let we see that again ". We always did our medals in a lounge suit, Mine was double breasted, I never ever did the top button up.
He was equally as severe with his markings. After he gave a bit of a lecture to us, he said. "My advice to you all is don't marry your partners. Statistically it won't be a success".A very outspoken gentleman.
