Hi. Im a 5th grade teacher. My students have been taking special lessons with American Ballroon Dancing. We are preparing to do a show for Multicultural Day. We will be representing Argentina with the Tango. But we have a small problem. While trying to find a song, we heard your Midnight Tango song on The Ballroom Mix 3 CD. We cannot afford to buy your entire CD. Can we PLEASE buy this one song? Please say you will be able to help. My students and I would like to thank you for trying to help!

You can get that song from the Itunes store as a single for $.99.

even a better and free option:
Use a file sharing software like limewire (www.limewire.com) and download the song for free.

I wonder why you would not use a song that is an actual ARGENTINE tango, rather than an American/Int'l song. Midnight Tango has no bandoneon, has none of the riffs and discords of a true Arg Tango.

School teachers should be careful about downloading songs for free from limewire, bearshare, etc.

You are very unlikely to run into any difficulties but the copyrightists take a dim view of public services doing this. It puts your school district into an unfortunate position.

Better to use iTunes (or in Canada Puretracks) or some other legal downloadable source.

Just incase you think this is a small issue.

When I was teaching the music publishers in Canada went after church choirs for using photocopies. In our music festivals (for children) they went after the organizations such that if a student were performing from music with an accompanist everyone onstage had to have an original score plus the adjudicator had to be given an original as well.

SOCAN (a Canadian musicians organization) has been able to successfully force restaurants, etc. playing CDs to pay a fee as the oners are using copyrighted material for business purposes. Refuse to pay and legal fines are imposed.

Our dance club (a non-profit society) approached them upfront rather than deal with issues from them later.

I suspect they will go after DJs soon enough. We burn our own discs for dances but we always have the original discs available incase.

We recently rented a hall that insisted we produce SOCAN documentation before signing the contract.

These groups love to go after things like schools because it's easy money.
